Images of Historic Wagner Farm in Cook County
Nestled in the suburban town of Glenview, Historic Wagner Farm is one of the last working farms in Cook County. Owned by the Wagner Family for 95 years, the Farm was a productive truck and dairy farm until the last of the five Wagner children, Rose Wagner, passed away in 1997. Since Wagner Farm became an iconic scene in Glenview, residents wanted to preserve the land after Rose’s death. After a few years of hard work, the Glenview Park District bought the property in 2000.
Today, visitors can experience a 1920s working farm. Admission to the Farm is free and all year visitors can see a working farm including the Farm’s cows, chickens, and horses as well as visit the Heritage Center which features an interactive exhibit area and gift shop. In the summer, Wagner Farm offers a variety of programs from helping with farm chores to learning about the dairy business. Visitors can also watch a live public milking every day, visit the restored 1920s brick farm house, and can purchase ice cream in the Farm’s ice cream parlor. In the winter, the Heritage Center is still open for visitors and the Farm also offers an exciting program called Past Plates. During the program, Wagner Staff dressed in 1920s period attire cook a traditional 1920s meal for you and your guests in the farm house. The program also includes a tour of the house and fun and historic parlor games. Visiting Historic Wagner Farm is a fun way to learn about the past and stay connected to farming and where our food comes from. read more |
